Indians: India’s Ministry of External Affairs has categorically rejected media reports claiming that India and the United Arab Emirates (UAE) are working on an agreement to evacuate Indian citizens through the Fujairah port. The ministry has termed these claims as false and baseless. The ministry’s fact-checking unit, on the social media platform X, dismissed the claims as fake news, stating that there is no basis for any such plan and no preparations are underway to evacuate anyone.

Indians: What’s in claim

Indians: The ministry has urged the public to be wary of such rumors. A media report claimed that India and the UAE were preparing an agreement to safely evacuate hundreds of thousands of Indian workers through the port of Fujairah. The report also stated that Prime Minister Narendra Modi will stop in Fujairah on May 15th during his visit to Europe, where the agreement could be signed. The report stated, “The PM will depart for Europe on May 15th with a stopover in Fujairah and then head to the Netherlands before heading to Sweden, Norway, and Italy.”

Indians: This clarification comes at a time when security is on high alert in the UAE. The UAE Ministry of Defense recently clarified the sounds of explosions heard in various parts of the country. The ministry stated that these sounds were due to military operations to destroy enemy missiles and drones mid-air. The National Emergency Management Agency has advised citizens to remain in safe places and follow official instructions. The region has been under threat of missile and drone attacks since late February. Although a ceasefire was agreed upon on April 8, regional tensions remain high.
