A major plane crash was narrowly averted in Nepal’s capital, Kathmandu. An international flight was in serious danger while landing at Tribhuvan International Airport. Thanks to the presence of mind of airport authorities and security personnel, a major accident was averted in time.

The incident occurred on Turkish Airlines Flight TK 726, which was flying from Istanbul, Turkey, to Kathmandu. As the plane landed on the runway, flames began to emerge from one of its tires. Emergency services at the airport were immediately activated upon receiving the news of the tire fire.

Nepal: 278 passengers safe, fire controlled
Airport Security Superintendent Rajkumar Silawal said that fire engines immediately arrived at the scene and brought the fire under control. The plane was carrying 278 passengers and 11 crew members. Security personnel immediately evacuated all passengers safely from the plane.

Significantly, some senior UN officials were also traveling on the plane. Police and airport officials have confirmed that all passengers and staff are safe. Timely action saved hundreds of lives and defused the situation.
