TVK chief Thalapathy Vijay met with M.K. Stalin on Monday, the day after assuming the Chief Minister’s post in Tamil Nadu. His son and former Deputy Chief Minister Udhayanidhi Stalin was also present. Vijay hugged Stalin. The former Chief Minister warmly welcomed TVK chief. The TVK, led by Joseph Vijay, ousted the DMK from power in the elections. the new Tamil Nadu Chief Minister, visited Stalin at a time when Stalin had skipped the swearing-in ceremony. This is being seen as a symbol of Vijay’s new political stance.

Majority to be proved on May 13

Thalapathy Vijay has become the ninth Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu. Governor Rajendra Vishwanath Arlekar has asked him to prove his majority in the Assembly on May 13th. Vijay has become Chief Minister with the support of smaller parties that were DMK’s electoral partners. These include the Congress, VCK, and IUML, as well as the CPI and CPI(M).

DMK appoints Udhayanidhi as leader

Vijay has claimed the support of 121 MLAs before the Governor. The majority figure in the 234-member Assembly is 118. Following Thalapathy Vijay’s appointment as Chief Minister, the DMK appointed Udhayanidhi Stalin as the Leader of the Opposition in the Assembly. In the Tamil Nadu Assembly elections, DMK chief MK Stalin lost, though Udhayanidhi won. Meanwhile, the state’s two other former chief ministers, EPS and OPS, both won.

After losing in Kothalur, Stalin visited his constituency. Congress’s support for TVK in Tamil Nadu has created a rift within the All India Alliance. The DMK is upset with the Congress. The party’s Lok Sabha member, Kanimozhi, has written to Speaker Om Birla demanding separate seating arrangements. Leader of the Opposition in the Lok Sabha, Rahul Gandhi, attended the swearing-in ceremony of the TVK chief.
