PM Modi: Amid rising tensions in the Middle East, India’s economic crisis appears to be deepening. Fuel prices remain high, leading to significant losses for Indian oil marketing companies. The economic predicament at which India stands can be gauged from the fact that Prime Minister Narendra Modi has, for the second time in 24 hours, appealed to the people of the country that resources should be used judiciously.

PM Modi’s second appeal

PM Modi is repeatedly urging the nation to adopt work from home, reduce fuel consumption, purchase fewer foreign goods, refrain from purchasing gold for a year, and reduce the use of cooking oil. He is appealing to adopt habits that will reduce energy consumption and ensure that India’s foreign exchange reserves are not significantly impacted.

Need to take crores of steps forward: PM Modi

PM Modi: After addressing the public in Hyderabad yesterday, Prime Minister Narendra Modi again appealed to the public from Gujarat. He said that the prices of goods imported from abroad are currently skyrocketing. Crude oil prices have nearly doubled, forcing the Indian government to spend more foreign currency. He described crude oil purchases as a burden on India’s economy and urged the public to use public transportation as much as possible, adopt carpooling, work from home, and minimize foreign travel. He also reiterated his emphasis on “local for vocal.”

Loss of Rs 1 lakh crore

Following Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s appeal to the nation, Petroleum Minister Hardeep Puri also informed the public that crude oil prices are rising sharply due to the ongoing war in West Asia. This could result in oil marketing companies incurring losses of approximately ₹1 lakh crore in retail fuel sales in the April-June quarter, with under-recoveries expected to be double that.

Contribution of common man is important

Many people may wonder how reducing our oil consumption or purchasing less gold will affect our economy. So, you should know that India is one of the countries with the highest imports of gold and crude oil. If even one person reduces their consumption of back-up goods, and many others do the same, the impact can be felt widely. Just as a drop fills a water pot, a small cell of ordinary people can contribute to reducing the burden on the government.
