Prime Minister Narendra Modi achieved another major milestone on Wednesday, completing a 12-year tenure as the head of the central government. He became the first leader in India to serve as the head of an elected government for 4,399 consecutive days. To mark this special occasion, a major NDA meeting was held at Bharat Mandapam in Delhi, where Prime Minister Modi received a grand welcome.
A very informal and friendly moment unfolded during the meeting when Prime Minister Modi enjoyed West Bengal’s famous Jhalmuri with fellow leaders. Bengal Chief Minister Suvendu Adhikari served Jhalmuri to PM Modi, while the Prime Minister himself distributed the snack to his colleagues. PM Modi also shared this special moment on social media; the video shows him enjoying Jhalmuri with the leaders.
Who attended the meeting?
Prominent leaders from the BJP and the NDA alliance attended this meeting held at Bharat Mandapam. Home Minister Amit Shah, Defence Minister Rajnath Singh, Nitin Gadkari, and party president JP Nadda were present on the occasion. Additionally, Chief Ministers of BJP-ruled states arrived in Delhi. Chief Ministers Yogi Adityanath (Uttar Pradesh), Pushkar Singh Dhami (Uttarakhand), and Pramod Sawant (Goa), along with Deputy Chief Ministers from several states, also attended the meeting.
How was this record set?
Prime Minister Modi has surpassed former Prime Minister Jawaharlal Nehru’s record by completing a tenure of 4,399 days as an elected head of government. This comparison is based on Nehru’s tenure from 1952 onwards, as he headed the interim government between 1947 and 1952. Although former Prime Minister Indira Gandhi held office for over 14 years, her tenure was not continuous. Consequently, PM Modi has become the longest-serving elected head of government in the country’s history.
