Actor Vijay becomes the 9th Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu

C. Joseph Vijay, chief of Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK) and actor-turned-politician, has become the Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu. He took the oath of office in the presence of Rahul Gandhi.

While taking the oath, Actor started speaking other things apart from the prescribed lines, on which Governor Arlekar interrupted him and asked him to read only what was given in writing.

9 other ministers also took oath with Actor. These include N Anand, Aadhav Arjun, Dr. KG Arunraj, KA Sengottaiyan, P Venkataramanan, R Nirmalkumar, Rajmohan, Dr. TK Prabhu, Selvi S Kirtana.

All of them are MLAs from Actor party, TVK. No MLAs from allied parties have been included in Vijay’s first cabinet.

Earlier on Saturday, Vijay submitted letters of support from 121 MLAs from the TVK, Congress, CPI, CPM, VCK, and IUML to Governor Arlekar, who then invited him to form the government.

two-year-old party, TVK, won 108 of the 234 seats in its first assembly election. Vijay now has 121 MLAs, while the majority mark is 118.

Tamil Nadu will have a chief minister from a non-Dravidian party after 1967. Previously, M. Bhaktavatsalam was the chief minister in the Congress government from 1963 to 1967.
