6 new ministers appointed in Yogi cabinet, 2 promoted

The Yogi Adityanath cabinet in Uttar Pradesh was expanded for the second time today. Six new members were added, including two cabinet ministers and four ministers of state. Two ministers of state were promoted to ministers of state with independent charge.

Former BJP state president Bhupendra Chaudhary was the first to be sworn in at a ceremony held at Raj Bhavan on Sunday. He was followed by rebel SP MLA Manoj Pandey. Both have been appointed cabinet ministers.

Ajit Pal was the third to be sworn in, followed by Somendra Tomar. Both MLAs were previously ministers of state and have now been appointed ministers of state (independent charge).

Krishna Paswan, Kailash Rajput, Surendra Diler, and Hansraj Vishwakarma were then sworn in. All four have been appointed Ministers of State. Krishna Paswan is a fourth-term MLA. Before entering politics, she was an Anganwadi worker.

After the oath, Ajit Pal, Somendra Tomar, Krishna Paswan, Kailash Rajput, Surendra Diler, and Hansraj touched the feet of the Governor and Chief Minister. Among the newly appointed ministers, one is a Brahmin, three are from the OBC community, and two are Dalits.

The UP government now has a total of 60 ministers, including Yogi. The first expansion of the Yogi cabinet took place on March 5, 2024, just before the 2024 Lok Sabha elections.
