Former Water Supply Minister Mahesh Joshi, arrested in the Jal Jeevan Mission (JJM) scam, was questioned for nearly eight hours on Saturday by the ACB’s Special Investigation Team (SIT). The SIT posed a list of more than 40 questions to Joshi, primarily regarding the tender process and allegations of unfair benefits to favored companies. The investigating agency specifically questioned tenders worth ₹960 crore that were obtained using fake IRCON completion certificates.
The inquiry examined which officials ignored rules when allocating tenders and whose role they played in the entire decision-making process. Sources say the former minister spent most of the questioning evading answers and defending himself.
JJM Scam: Preparations underway to crack down on big names involved in scam!
The ACB is now matching Joshi’s statements with documents seized from the department, based on which other big names and officials involved in the scam may soon be tightened. The ACB’s Special Investigation Team (SIT) also questioned former minister Mahesh Joshi for about eight hours on Friday. The main focus of the investigation was a confidential email sent by IRCON, which detailed fraudulent practices by contractors.

JJM Scam: Based on inputs received during Subodh Agarwal’s interrogation, the ACB is now investigating Mahesh Joshi’s role. Under the leadership of Dr. Rameshwar Singh, the ACB SIT’s supervisory officer, a thorough investigation is being conducted into every aspect of the case. The ACB is now piecing together how a confidential warning was ignored and work orders worth crores were issued to contractors with fake experience certificates.
10 years imprisoned if convicted
Based on the ACB chargesheet and preliminary investigation, it is indicated that if found guilty under the Prevention of Corruption Act in this case, former Water Supply Minister Mahesh Joshi and retired IAS Subodh Agarwal, along with other accused, may face a maximum sentence of 10 years rigorous imprisonment.
Joshi on remand till May 11
In the much-publicized ₹960 crore Jal Jeevan Mission (JJM) scam, Mahesh Joshi, the former Water Supply Minister in the previous Congress government, was arrested by the ACB on May 7th, his wedding anniversary. Following his arrest, he underwent a medical examination and was produced before the ACB court. The court remanded Mahesh Joshi to ACB custody until May 11th. Subodh Agarwal, the then Additional Chief Secretary of the Water Supply Department, was previously arrested on April 9th in the same case. He is currently in jail.
