Vaibhav Suryavanshi has become the youngest player ever selected for the Indian cricket team. At 15 years and 71 days old, Vaibhav has been selected for the T20 series against Ireland and England in June-July, as well as the Asian Games in September. Cricket matches at the Asian Games are played in the T20 format only.
Shreyas Iyer has been appointed India’s new captain in the T20 format. World Cup-winning Suryakumar Yadav has been stripped of the captaincy and has also been dropped from the team. Tilak Verma has been appointed vice-captain of the T20 team.
Vaibhav broke Shefali’s record by a gap of 149 days
Vaibhav has broken Shefali Verma’s record for being the youngest player to be selected for the Indian team for the first time. Previously, Shefali was the youngest player to be selected for the Indian team, both men’s and women’s cricket combined. When Shefali was first selected, she was 15 years and 220 days old. Meanwhile, among male cricketers, this record was held by Sachin Tendulkar, who was selected for the Indian team at the age of 16 years and 194 days.
Vaibhav can also become youngest Indian to debut
Shafali made her debut for India at the age of 15 years and 239 days. Sachin, on the other hand, made his debut for India at the age of 16 years and 205 days. If Vaibhav gets a chance to play even a single match in the England-Ireland tour or the Asian Games, he will surpass both Shafali and Sachin to become the youngest cricketer to play for India.
