Ananimous election
The Assam BJP Legislature Party meeting was held in the morning. Eight BJP MLAs proposed Himanta Biswa Sarma’s name as leader. JP Nadda and Haryana Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini were present as central observer and co-observer throughout the process. Key alliance partners, the Asom Gana Parishad (AGP) and the Bodoland People’s Front (BPF), also fully supported Sarma’s nomination. Following the consensus of all parties, he was unanimously elected as the NDA leader.
According to officials, Himanta Biswa Sarma and other senior NDA leaders will meet Governor Laxman Prasad Acharya at Lok Bhavan on Sunday. During this meeting, they will discuss the essential details of government formation. The NDA leaders will also formally stake their claim to form a new government before the Governor.

How was the electoral equation?
The BJP-led NDA has delivered a historic performance in the Assam Assembly elections. The alliance has returned to power for the third consecutive term with a two-thirds majority. The BJP alone won a landslide victory, winning 82 seats in the 126-member Assembly. Its allies, the AGP and BPF, each won 10 seats. With this resounding victory, the alliance has further strengthened its hold in the state. The process of forming a new government in the state will now move forward rapidly.
With Himanta Biswa Sarma’s coronation, the BJP will form the government in Assam for the third consecutive term. This is seen as a further strengthening of the party’s presence in the Northeast. Sarma, who held important portfolios like Health and Education in his previous term, will now be responsible for leading the entire state to a new level.
