Three years of struggle ends

It’s worth noting that the state’s Chief Minister position has been under intense scrutiny for the past three years. In fact, the Congress government was formed in Karnataka in May 2023. At that time, two prominent party leaders, Siddaramaiah and DK Shivakumar, competed to become Chief Minister. However, the Congress high command, trusting Siddaramaiah’s experience, approved him as Chief Minister, while Shivakumar had to settle for the Deputy Chief Minister position.

There was speculation then that the two leaders had reached an agreement to hold the Chief Ministership for two and a half years each. However, this was never officially confirmed, and Siddaramaiah later strengthened his hold on the Chief Ministership. However, it is now widely expected that the Congress high command has agreed to Shivakumar’s appointment as Chief Minister, leading to Siddaramaiah’s resignation.
