Samajwadi Party chief Akhilesh Yadav’s younger brother, Prateek Yadav, died on Wednesday. He was 38 years old. At 6 a.m., his wife Aparna Yadav’s brother, Aman Singh Bisht, rushed him to Lucknow’s Civil Hospital, where doctors declared him dead.

According to Dr. DC Pandey, Chief Medical Superintendent of the Civil Hospital, when Pratik was brought in, his pulse was completely down and his heart had also stopped.

Prateek’s wife, BJP leader Aparna, was in Assam to attend the swearing-in ceremony of Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma. She will arrive in Lucknow shortly. The cause of Prateek’s death is not yet known. The postmortem was conducted at King George’s Medical University, or KGMU. From there, the body will be taken to Prateek’s home.

Akhilesh Yadav also went to the postmortem house. He saw his younger brother’s body. He called Prateek’s driver and spoke with him inside. Coming out, he said, “It’s sad that he’s no longer with us. We will accept whatever the law and the family say.”

Pratik’s health first deteriorated at 11 pm on Tuesday night. He was brought to the Civil Hospital then. However, after some time, he felt better and went home. Previously, on April 30th, Pratik was admitted to a private hospital in Lucknow in critical condition. He felt some relief after three days.

After this, he went home without leave. According to doctors, he was suffering from a serious lung condition called pulmonary embolism. In this condition, a blood clot gets lodged in the veins of the lungs, blocking blood circulation.

Prateek was the son of Mulayam Singh Yadav’s second wife, Sadhna Gupta. Sadhna Gupta was first married to Chandraprakash Gupta in 1986. Prateek was born in 1987. Chandraprakash Gupta and Sadhna divorced in 1990. During this time, Sadhna and Mulayam became close. In 2003, Mulayam Singh married Sadhna Gupta and publicly declared Prateek his son.
