The government formation picture in Tamil Nadu is now clear. VCK has officially announced its support for Vijay today. Two IUML MLAs have also pledged their support. With this, TVK has crossed the magic number of 118 for a majority in the state assembly. VCK President Tholkappiyan Thirumavalavan presented the letter of support to General Secretary Adhav Arjuna, who is managing the election campaign on behalf of the TVK. He clarified that his party would support the formation of a TVK-led government in Tamil Nadu. The VCK’s support has paved the way for the formation of a government under Vijay’s leadership.
Actor Vijay met with Governor Rajendra Vishwanath Arlekar for the third consecutive day on Friday to stake his claim to form the government. However, he had letters of support from only 116 MLAs. Vijay had previously staked his claim to form the government on May 6 and 7. The Governor then stated that he could not invite him to form the government without the support of 118 MLAs.

- Congress: First of call Congress supported the TVK. It has total of 5 MLAs.
- CPI: The Communist Party of India has pledged its support for ‘stable and democratic governance.’ They have two MLAs.
- The CPI(M): (Marxist) Communist Party has also officially submitted a letter of support to TVK. They have two MLAs.
- IUML: Two MLAs from IUML have also expressed their support, bringing the majority number to 121.
- VCK: At the last, VCK party, led by Thol Thirumavalavan, ended the suspense today (May 9) by submitting its support letters. They have two MLAs.
Let’s understand this math!
A majority in the 234-member assembly requires 118 seats, while the TVK won a total of 108. With the support of five Congress MLAs, two from the CPI, two from the CPI(M), and two from the VCK, the TVK alliance has reached 121. However, Vijay holds two seats, so his tally will be counted as one. The effective tally is 120. This clears the way for a new government in Tamil Nadu under Vijay’s leadership.
