Krishnavataram Review: We may have seen many films depicting the exploits of Lord Krishna, but ‘Krishnavataram Part 1: Hridayam,’ which is currently in theaters is different. The first question that comes to mind before going to see such films is, “What’s new in this one?” But believe me, go ahead and see this film without any second thoughts.

It will recreate the same story from years past in such a captivating way that you will be transported back to the Dwapar era and begin to experience Lord Krishna. The first part of this three-part film is based on Krishna’s love story and his devotion.

Krishnavataram Review: Story

Krishnavataram Review: The film begins at Bhalakka Tirtha, the site where Lord Krishna breathed his last. It is further said that the idol of Lord Krishna in the Jagannath Puri temple still retains his heart. When Swami (Jackie Shroff) narrates the story of Lord Krishna, a debate between science and faith begins. The story then moves to the Dwapara Yuga, depicting the birth of Shri Krishna (Siddharth Gupta), his journey from Gokul to Vrindavan, his rise to Dwarkadhish, his meeting with Radha (Sushmita Bhatt), and his marriage to Rukmini (Nivasini Krishnan) and Satyabhama (Sanskriti Jayana). The film concludes at the beginning of the Mahabharata, but two more installments are still to follow, which will continue the story.

Role

The best part of the film is that its main cast is fresh and new. The makers haven’t experimented with any A-listers. Siddharth Gupta perfectly portrays Krishna. He exudes innocence and a steady dialogue delivery. His wig doesn’t work in some scenes, but that’s easy to ignore. The remarkable thing is that he portrays love with such grace and anger.

Krishnavataram Review: Meanwhile, Sushmita Bhatt, as Radha, is absolutely stunning in every frame. She perfectly embodies the role, as if she has mastered it. Nivasini Krishnan, as Rukmini, and Samskruthi Jayna, as Satyabhama, also deliver superb performances. All four actors have performed their lead roles admirably.

In the rest of the film, many big actors including Jackie Shroff, Amanjot Singh, Deepak Dobriyal, Govind Namdev, Zarina Wahab, Kumud Mishra and Ashutosh Rana leave their mark in their small roles.

Direction

This film’s director, Hardik Gajjar, has previously directed the TV show “Devon Ke Dev – Mahadev.” That show was also a cult hit. He has also directed films like “Achari Baa” starring Neena Gupta. Those films were small-budget but beautifully presented. Here, Hardik’s budget and scale are larger, but he handled this film beautifully. The story he co-wrote with Prakash Kapadia and Ram Mori is uniquely narrated.

Krishnavataram Review: The most beautiful thing about the film is that its VFX never overdoes it. Whether it’s Dwarka or Vrindavan, it feels real. The grand sets and the magnificent songs, the film’s visuals are sure to leave you wide-eyed. There’s no shortage of color in the film. For the entire two and a half hours, the screen feels like a canvas.

There are several scenes that send shivers down your spine. One of these is when Lord Krishna says “Tathastu” to Draupadi upon her request for a boon. There are several scenes that don’t even feel like you’re watching a movie. In everything else, Hardik has done a perfect job. He never lets the film falter.

Music

The film features numerous songs, all written by Irshad Kamil. Sung by Shreya Ghoshal and Sonu Nigam, they are a delight to the ears. Most depict the love story of Lord Krishna. While they all sound pleasant, some do slow down the film’s pace.

Krishnavataram Review: This part of the film focuses heavily on Krishna’s love. If you don’t understand love, this film isn’t for you. If you want to enjoy the rest of the grandeur, see it in a theater with your entire family. Watching it will surely answer many questions about mythology and faith.
