CM Fadnavis: A few days ago, Prime Minister Narendra Modi appealed to reduce fuel consumption. In response, several ministers have reduced the size of their convoys. Meanwhile, Maharashtra CM Devendra Fadnavis arrived at the Vidhan Bhavan on Thursday by motorcycle to attend the swearing-in ceremony of new Legislative Council members. This move is part of measures taken following Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s appeal to reduce fuel consumption.

Chose to walk to the ministry
Fadnavis rode a motorcycle from his residence, Varsha, to the Vidhan Bhavan in south Mumbai. He was accompanied by BJP leader and minister Ashish Shelar. In a similar move aimed at saving fuel, Minister of State Nitesh Rane chose to walk to the Mantralaya (state secretariat) to attend the cabinet meeting. On Wednesday, CM Fadnavis announced a slew of austerity measures, including halving the number of vehicles in the convoy of his cabinet colleagues and cancelling foreign tours of ministers and officials.

Instructions were given to reduce the number of vehicles
Meanwhile, following Andhra Pradesh CM N. Chandrababu Naidu and Deputy CM Pawan Kalyan, state Information and Human Resource Development Minister Nara Lokesh and other ministers have also decided to reduce the size of their convoys in response to Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s appeal to conserve fuel in view of the ongoing conflict in West Asia. Lokesh, CM Naidu’s son, on Thursday directed his security staff to reduce the number of vehicles in his convoy by 50 percent.
Traveled with E-rickshaw
Union Law Minister Arjun Ram Meghwal on Thursday travelled by e-rickshaw from the railway station in Bikaner, Rajasthan to his residence to promote fuel conservation. Meghwal arrived at the Bikaner railway station from Delhi and chose to travel by e-rickshaw to avoid the convoy of vehicles. Meanwhile, Rajasthan Chief Minister Bhajan Lal Sharma has also reduced the number of vehicles in his convoy. He has directed the Chief Secretary, senior officials, and public representatives to limit the number of vehicles in their convoys to save petrol and diesel.

Wrote a letter requesting to reduce the number of vehicles
The decision will mean his convoy will have only two vehicles. On Wednesday, Chief Minister Naidu directed officials to reduce the number of vehicles in his convoy by 50 percent during district visits in an effort to reduce fuel consumption. Meanwhile, Nityanand Rai, personal secretary to the Minister of State for Home Affairs, has written to the Chief Secretary of Bihar, requesting a reduction in the number of vehicles in the security arrangements for Rai’s visit. This request comes after Prime Minister Narendra Modi appealed to reduce the size of convoys to save fuel.
