Kamal met Vijay

Actor Kamal Haasan met Chief Minister Vijay and shared the news on his X timeline. He wrote, “Today I met the Honorable Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu, Vijay, in person. He shared many of his dreams for the development of Tamil Nadu. The humility and affection he displayed during our meeting filled me with pride.”

Made these 6 demands

He further said, “I have placed six demands before the Tamil Nadu government. I also mentioned that the Tamil film industry is currently facing many challenges. If appropriate steps are not taken in time, this could affect thousands of people associated with the film industry. In such a situation, the industry needs support and love. I hope this will be beneficial.” So let’s talk about one by one condition.

Government OTT

The most important of Kamal Haasan’s six demands was the launch of a government-run OTT platform. He said, “The government should create a platform where people can watch Tamil films, independent films, and documentaries at affordable prices. This will give small filmmakers and new artists a chance to showcase their talent. It will also promote the Tamil language and culture.”

Removal tax on films

In addition, Kamal Haasan also demanded the removal of the 4 percent entertainment tax imposed on films. He said, “Today, the cost of filmmaking has increased more than ever before. Theater owners are also having to spend more on electricity, staff, and other expenses. This tax has become an additional burden for them. If the government removes this tax, it will provide relief to producers and theater owners. This will encourage more people to invest in film production, and the theater business will also function better.”

Demand for action against digital piracy

Kamal Haasan also demanded action against digital piracy. He said that often illegal copies of films appear on the internet as soon as they are released, significantly impacting the film’s earnings. This harms not just the producer but the entire industry.

Cybercrime Department and Anti-Piracy Cooperation

He called for the creation of a dedicated anti-piracy team within the Tamil Nadu Police Cyber Crime Department, which would immediately remove leaked films from the Internet to prevent piracy.

Appeal to provide relief to theater owners

Kamal Haasan also demanded relief for theater owners. He said, “All cinemas in Tamil Nadu should be allowed to run five shows per film per day. This will increase theater revenue and provide audiences with more options.”

No OTT release for 8 weeks…

Additionally, Kamal Haasan demanded that films be held off on OTT platforms for at least eight weeks after their theatrical release. He argued that the early release of films on digital platforms harms cinemas and discourages audiences from attending.

In his final demand, Kamal Haasan called for the introduction of a new incentive scheme to promote film production. He stated that if the government supports the film industry, Tamil Nadu could once again emerge as a major film production hub. This would create new employment opportunities and benefit tourism in the state.
