The Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) has admitted an error in the evaluation of 12th Class answer sheets. Following a viral post by a student on social media, the board acknowledged that an error occurred in the evaluation and uploading of answer sheets, and will revise the marks of the students concerned.

This matter came into light when a student named Vedant claimed on social media platform X that under the new system of CBSE’s On-screen marking method, he was seen someone’s else Physics’s copy instead of him. He put an allegation that during re-evaluation, another student’s copy was uploaded on behalf of his name. This matter raised a serious question on CBSE’s evaluation process.

How this matter exposed?

On May 23, Vedant shared a series of posts on X, explaining that he was devastated after receiving photocopies of his answer sheets, as the handwriting and answers in his Physics paper were not his. The student feared that such a mistake could affect both his grades and college admission.

Vedanta recognized his copy

Vedant claimed that his family and teachers immediately noticed the difference after seeing his Physics answer sheet. According to him, his English and Computer Science answer sheets matched, but his Physics answer sheet looked completely different. He wrote on social media that the Physics answer sheet sent to him was not his. He said the handwriting, letter formation, word spacing, sentence structure, and style of answers were all completely different.

Vedanta’s demand

Vedant linked the entire matter to the CBSE’s digital evaluation system, arguing that if answer sheets themselves are being incorrectly tagged, how can students trust the process. He demanded that the board examine the original physical answer sheets, audit the scanning and tagging process, and investigate the matter.

Vedanta and his family faced online trolling

A sensitive aspect of this case was that after voicing their concerns, Vedant and his family faced social media trolling. Some users dismissed the student’s claims as false, while several accounts, without any basis, targeted him by calling him a Pakistani.

Answer sheet discrepancy raised serious questions about CBSE

After the matter quickly went viral on social media, the CBSE launched an investigation. The board admitted that the Physics answer sheet had been tampered with. Another complaint related to Chemistry was also found to be true, further raising questions about the board’s digital evaluation and verification system.

CBSE sent mail to Vedanta

CBSE’s Joint Secretary (Coordination) sent an email to Vedanta, sharing his correct Physics answer sheet. The board wrote in its message, “Please find enclosed your correct Physics answer sheet. Your result will be updated soon based on the new scores.” This email confirmed the student’s concerns. The board clarified that the Physics marks will be revised and the updated result will be released soon.
