Delhi: Several states in North India, including Delhi, are expected to experience intense heatwaves over the next few days. Temperatures could rise by 3 to 5 degrees Celsius. Rajasthan, Punjab, and Haryana are likely to experience the worst of the heatwave.Meanwhile, the Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued an alert for heavy rain, thunderstorms, and strong winds in 17 states of the country. From May 18, there is an alert for moderate rain with strong winds and hailstorms in 17 states including Madhya Pradesh and Vidarbha. Rain with lightning and thunder is likely in the northeastern states of Assam, Meghalaya, Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram, Arunachal Pradesh, and Tripura on May 18. During this time, winds will blow at a speed of 60 kilometers per hour.

Rain and thunderstorms are expected in many parts of the Andaman and Nicobar Islands, Bihar, Jharkhand, Odisha, and West Bengal. An alert for very heavy rainfall and strong gusty winds has been issued for the Andaman and Nicobar Islands on May 18. Jharkhand may experience severe thunderstorms on May 19 and 20. In northwest India, Jammu and Kashmir may experience light to moderate rain and strong winds on May 19 and 20. Maharashtra and Marathwada may also experience thunderstorms.

Weather in Delhi

IMD has predicted partly cloudy skies and light drizzle with thunderstorms in Delhi. There is also a possibility of thunderstorms accompanied by strong winds during this period. The Meteorological Department has issued a warning to people to exercise caution during this time. The weather may deteriorate today in Delhi as well as the NCR region.

Weather in UP (18 & 19 May)

According to IMD, heat wave is expected in parts of Uttar Pradesh over the next 24 hours. Prayagraj, Ghazipur, Orai, and Agra are likely to record above-normal maximum temperatures, while Etawah and Meerut are likely to see above-normal minimum temperatures.

Weather in Bihar

IMD issued heavy rain and thunderstorm warnings for Bhagalpur, Purnia, Saharsa, Supaul, Katihar, Araria, Munger, Khagaria, Darbhanga, and Madhubani. In Patna, the maximum temperature will reach 40 degrees Celsius on May 18th, while the minimum temperature will be 28 degrees Celsius.

Weather in Rajasthan (18 to 22 May)

The weather will remain dry across most parts of Rajasthan this week. Temperatures are expected to rise by two to three degrees Celsius. Maximum temperatures in the border areas of western Rajasthan could again reach 44 to 45 degrees Celsius in the coming days. Heat wave conditions are possible in some areas. IMD has also predicted that surface winds with speeds of 20 to 30 kilometers per hour may occur in western and northern parts between May 18 and 22.

Weather in Chattisgarh (18 & 19 May)

Chhattisgarh is experiencing a sudden change in weather, accompanied by thunderstorms and torrential rain. According to IMD, the sudden change in weather on May 18th and 19th is expected to bring heavy rain and strong winds to several districts in Chhattisgarh, including Raipur. The storm could uproot trees. The Meteorological Department has forecast continuous rain and cloudy skies.

Weather in Jharkhand

Jharkhand is likely to experience light to moderate rain, thunderstorms and gusty winds with speeds of 40 to 50 kmph from May 18 to 23. Rainfall is likely in most parts of the state except Garhwa, Palamu, Latehar, Chatra, Koderma and Hazaribagh. Light to moderate rain, thunderstorms, lightning and gusty winds with speeds of 40 to 50 kmph are expected across the state on May 21, while from May 21 to 23, rain will occur in many parts of the state except Garhwa, Palamu, Chatra and Latehar.

Weather in Uttrakhand

IMD issued an alert for heavy rain and strong winds for Nainital, Rudraprayag, Bageshwar, Pauri Garhwal, Haridwar, Rishikesh, Almora, and Udham Singh Nagar. Winds will blow at speeds of 60 to 70 kilometers per hour. In Dehradun, the maximum temperature will reach 38 degrees Celsius on May 18, and the minimum temperature will drop to 26 degrees Celsius.

Weather in West Bengal

According to IMD, thunderstorms are expected in southern West Bengal. The capital of West Bengal, Kolkata is expected to record a maximum temperature of 34 degrees Celsius during this period. Kolkata is expected to experience light rain and thunderstorms, accompanied by winds of 30 to 40 kmph. Similar weather is forecast for Howrah, Hooghly, South 24 Parganas, East and West Medinipur, Bankura, and East Bardhaman. Winds of 40 to 50 kilometers per hour are possible in districts like Nadia, Murshidabad, North 24 Parganas, Birbhum, Purulia, and Jhargram.

Weather in Himachal Pradesh

IMD issued a warning of light rain in Shimla, Kangra, Solan, Sirmaur, Una, Kinnaur, and Chamba. Winds will blow at speeds of 30 to 40 kilometers per hour during this period. On May 18, the maximum temperature in Manali will be 17 degrees Celsius and the minimum temperature will be 4 degrees Celsius.
