Ten people, including two women, were killed in a tragic accident when the vehicle in which they were travelling collided head on with a truck in Uttar Pradesh’s Lakhimpur Kheri district on Monday.

The impact was so severe that the front of the Magic van was crushed. People were trapped between the seats. Two people were thrown out onto the road. People nearby rushed to the scene, informed the police, and began relief efforts.

Police arrived at the scene and rushed an injured person to a nearby hospital. He also died during treatment. Eyewitnesses reported that the Magic van was traveling from Lakhimpur to Sisaia when it was hit head-on by a truck coming from Bahraich. The truck was moving at high speed and suddenly lost control. The truck driver fled the scene after the accident.
Police have taken the bodies into custody and sent them for postmortem. The accident occurred near Adlispur village on the Pilibhit-Basti highway, 40 km from the district headquarters.
Police seized the truck
Khamaria CO Shamsher Bahadur Singh said, “Police have seized the truck (UP 14 HT 5176). The driver is being searched for.” Meanwhile, Dr. Amit Kumar Singh, Superintendent of CHC Khamaria, said, “After the accident, the bodies of two women and seven men were brought here. Many bodies were badly crushed. A seriously injured man was referred to the district hospital, but he also died on the way.”
Three deceased have been identified
Three of the deceased have been identified. They include Jaiveer Singh (25), son of Peshkar Singh, resident of village Man Gothiya, Bahraich; Adnan, son of Vakil, resident of village Sisaia, Dhaurahra-Kheri; and Pawan, son of Santosh, resident of village Manjhra, Ram Vachan Purva, Bahraich. Efforts are underway to identify the remaining deceased.
