The Pradosh fast is dedicated to Lord Shiva. It is observed on the thirteenth day of the fortnight of each month. The day of the week on which the fast falls is named after the day, and its significance varies. According to religious beliefs, observing the fast brings special blessings from Lord Shiva and Goddess Parvati. This fasting is considered the best way to receive Mahadev’s blessings. When is the first Prodash in May 2026?
According to the Panchang, the Trayodashi Tithi of the Krishna Paksha of the Jyeshtha month will begin at 11:20 am on May 14. It will end at 8:31 am on May 15. The first Pradosh fast of this month will be observed on Thursday, May 14, 2026. Since it falls on a Thursday, it will be called ‘Guru Pradosh Vrat’.
Auspicious time
The most auspicious time for Guru Pradosh puja is from 7:50 pm to 9:17 pm. Devotees will have approximately 2 hours and 12 minutes to worship Lord Shiva. It’s worth noting that worshipping during the fast is always fruitful in the evening (around sunset). Worship performed after the auspicious time does not yield full results, so be especially mindful of the timing.
Importance of Pradosh?
When Fast falls on a Thursday, it is known as Guru Pradosh. Guru Pradosh is also called Brihaspati. This day is dear to Lord Shiva, but because it is associated with Brihaspati, the guru of the gods, fasting on this day brings knowledge, education, wealth, righteousness, and happiness and prosperity.
