Jaishankar: The Quad Foreign Ministers’ meeting, held in the nation’s capital, Delhi, has shaped a new and robust face of global diplomacy. At this high-level forum, India’s Foreign Minister, Dr. S. Jaishankar, and Australia’s Foreign Minister, Penny Wong, delivered significant and concrete statements regarding the security, sovereignty, and economic prosperity of the Indo-Pacific region.

The main focus on the Indo-Pacific: Jaishankar
India’s Foreign Minister, Dr. S. Jaishankar, made it clear at the start of the meeting that the focus this time was on determining collective actions and finding solutions to the challenges facing the world. He stated that the Quad’s primary mandate would remain the Indo-Pacific.

Jaishankar expressed concern about the significant challenges facing global supply chain resilience, disruptions to connectivity, and the siloing of manufacturing and resources. He said new partnerships and robust economic growth are needed to fill critical infrastructure gaps. A transparent and trustworthy partnership is essential to enhance strategic trust, ensure maritime security, and promote economic options in the Indo-Pacific. He expressed hope that Quad member countries will fulfill their responsibility towards a free and open Indo-Pacific.

Australia salutes India- Penny
Australian Foreign Minister Penny Wong praised India, calling it the world’s largest democracy and a vitally important power shaping the Indo-Pacific. Wong recalled Jaishankar’s earlier statement that countries in the Indo-Pacific should have the “freedom of choice” to protect their security and sovereign interests. This philosophy is central to Australia’s involvement with the Quad.

Penny Wong further stated that all four countries are sovereign nations with their own histories and interests. Despite this, there is remarkable convergence in our interests. All four countries dream of a free and open Indo-Pacific. She added that the Quad has proven itself on the ground by providing relief during natural disasters. Furthermore, concrete progress has been made in the areas of undersea cables, critical infrastructure, maritime security, and critical minerals. All four countries are committed to making the Quad even stronger and more effective.
